Happy New Year everyone, and Happy Full Moon.
It’s with great pleasure that I share this short film with you all — a visual poem and meditation on “Samsara”. This Sanskrit and Pali term can be loosely translated as “wandering,” a word that describes the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. At the beginning of a new year, this theme feels especially apt to share.
Samsara is a project close to my heart. It’s the last film I wrote and directed before leaving New York. Through poetic imagery and reflective storytelling, it delves into the cyclical nature of existence and the beauty within moments of renewal. It’s a meditation on what it means to move through transitions and find meaning in the endless flow of beginnings and endings.
With Barbara Gabrielle leading as Director of Photography and me operating the video tape recorder, we aimed to capture a timeless, contemplative narrative, using dynamic angles that draw the viewer into a magical realist journey.
I hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What resonated with you? How do you interpret the concept of Samsara in your own life?
Thank you for your responses to my previous newsletter. Your words and reflections mean so much to me. Feel free to reply directly or leave a message on Substack with your comments.
Warmly,
Lilly
